This Saturday (August 27, 2016) Ill Mannered Brewing up in Powell (30 Grace Drive) is throwing a party to celebrate their first year in business, and everyone is invited. Given the burgeoning craft beer scene in Central Ohio, brewery anniversary parties come around more often than a full moon, but in my experience the first one is usually special. As you would expect from a brewery that likes to experiment, releasing no less than 25 different beers in their first year of existence, the event will feature some special releases brewed up just for the gala. Tapping of the anniversary beers will be staged throughout the day starting at noon (it’s Saturday after all):
Noon: Sai My Name Red Saison – Made with a blend of French and Belgian yeasts, layered deep with esters including spice, pepper, and citrus. Dry hopped with New Zealand hops and tinted with a beautiful red hue.
2 pm: Dark Ego, Black Gose – An Ill Mannered take on the classic Gose style. A tart, dark, wheat beer with chocolate and roasted coffee notes, finished with coriander and pink himalayan sea salt.
4 pm: Subterfuge, Russian Imperial Stout – Clocking in at 10.5% this beer is full bodied, black as night, and packed with chocolate, coffee and roast flavors.
6 pm: Barrel Aged Fat Bottomed Girl Belgian Dark Strong – A taproom favorite shoved into a Middle West Spirits Barrel. Deep and rich layers of complexity including oak, whiskey, stone fruit, and malty sweetness, yet dangerously drinkable at 9.4%
Those of you who have been lucky enough to make it up to Ill Mannered might be wondering if everyone shows up how in the hell will we all fit? After all the seating area in Ill Mannered Taproom is not that much bigger than two college dorm rooms put together (though to be fair it is much more tastefully decorated). Not to worry, arrangements have been made for the party to spill over into the Mojo TaGo’s space next door, with a full Ill Mannered tap takeover at the bar. By doubling the normal quantity of taps there will be a total of twelve Ill Mannered Beers on offer throughout the day including A Risky Ending Cream Ale, Rye One On Belgian Rye Pale Ale, Nice Vice Breakfast Stout, and my personal favorite Powell! Right in the Kisser IPA.
So get your errands done early on Saturday and head up to Powell for some tasty afternoon libations. With a selection like this there’s sure to be something to please every palate. Think of it as training camp for the slew of morning tailgates that inevitably accompany Buckeye football games with noon kickoff times. I’ll see you there.
