Pat’s Pints Podcast Episode 10 – Baltic Porters

Long time homebrewer A.J. Zanyk knows a thing or two about Baltic Porters.  He and co-host Mark Richards brewed a Baltic Porter named Motherbird that won best in show honors at the 2001 Ohio State Fair Homebrew competition. If that weren’t enough A.J. took with top honors at the 2017 Barley’s Homebrew competition with an updated version of the recipe dubbed Foolish Mortal.  In this episode A.J., Mark and I talk about the origins of this enigmatic style that fuses British porters with strong German lagers; drink some imported and local examples; talk about A.J.s role in the development of the BJCP guidelines for the style; and offer up some tips for homebrewers adventurous enough to dip their toes in this strong, dark beer that hails from the shores of the Baltic sea.
