Ohio is not the only place that celebrates Christmas with an outpouring of strong, spiced beers. The Belgians have been doing this for this many decades, albeit with a more restrained hand on the spice additions. Land Grant’s Dan Shaffer and Columbus Beer Adventures guide Ralph Wolfe join us once again for some potent, seasonally appropriate beers. We begin our journey with Chimay Grand Reserve (Blue Cap), which started off as a Christmas seasonal. We then go full on Christmas with the bright, spicy Delirium Noël, followed by the distinctly Belgian Scaldis Noël, and one of Belgium’s most beloved Christmas Beers, Stille Nacht by De Dolle Brouwers. Balanced by just a hint of acidity, Dan calls Stille Nacht the most refreshing 12% beer he’s ever tried. We finish closer to home with Fathead’s Pimp My Sleigh. So, grab a snifter of your favorite Belgian or Belgian-inspired winter beer and join us by the yule log.
