In it’s 5 year history Gemüt Biergarten has done much to distinguish itself from the pack. Their location in Columbus’ Olde Town East neighborhood is a gorgeous, inviting location with sturdy communal tables, stained glass windows that tell the story of their core beers, and one of the city’s best beer gardens. In a world awash with IPAs they focus almost exclusively on German and Czech-style lagers, served up in half-liter and liter mugs. Their beers have received numerous accolades including a bronze medal at the 2021 GABF in the highly competitive German-pilsner category, a bronze in 2022 at the World Beer Cup for their dunkel, and a gold at the recent 2024 World Beer Cup for their Dortmunder. In this episode we sit down with brewers Rob Camstra and Kayla McGuire for an in-depth discussion of German-style lagers. While enjoying some world class lagers we discuss all things Gemut, the keys to brewing lagers, and learn about the nuances that distinguish helles from pilsner from Dortmunder. So grab a stein of beer and park yourself in the nearest beer garden and join us for an informative and fun discussion.
